Was There A Time…

Was there a time

I chanted

the many ways

I loved you?

Was there a time

I shivered in the rain

under your window,

unlocking those louvers

with pebbles of passion?

Was there a time

I became sonorous,

serenading you to slumber

and gentle wakefulness

at godly hours?

Was there ever a time

we were glued

heart to mind

mind to soul

till distance drove a wedge?

Was there a time

you only had the key

to my chest of secrets?

Was there a time

your breath called

my kisses home

and your fragrant mane

tickled my nostrils

and senses senseless?

Do you remember

when I battled for you

and was the last conquered?

Was there a time

words lost meaning

and we spoke only

with eyes and smiles?

Did mortals ever worship us

whispering libations

on our regal walks?

Was there a time

none but us existed?

Was there a time

I chanted

the many ways I loved you?

Is it a dream

of a time long gone

or of one soon to come?
