While visiting New York City this past weekend, a Shrewsbury resident ran into a famous face who she couldn’t place – a tall, thin man walking through the hallway of the Sheraton New York Times Square hotel.
“‘You look familiar,’” Susan Monaghan told the Boston Globe she asked the man, later identified to be Jay-Z. “‘Do I know you?’”
Then she saw a striking woman in a couture black dress and beret: Beyoncé.
“I was like ‘Oh, my God!’” Monaghan told the Boston Globe. “I looked at her and all I could think was, ‘No one is going to believe me. No one is going to believe me.’”
When her excitement became audible, Monaghan said the singer, on her way to the Grammys with Jay-Z, told her, “Don’t worry, it’s going to be OK.”
So, this is why she thinks the now-famous photo saw the light of day: “I think she posted it for me,” she said, via Harper’s Bazaar. “So people would believe me.”
Oh, and in case you ever wondered what it’s like to hug Beyoncé, the answer is, yes, it’s magical: “I felt like I was hugged by an angel,” Monaghan said.
A photo snapped of their chance meeting was shared this week to Beyoncé’s Instagram account, in a series of photos taken of her and her husband that evening. In the photo, Monaghan looks at the couple – mouth agape with incredulity – as they walk past.
