New ‘Orange Is the New Black’ to Focus On Faith And Religion

The new season of Orange of the New Black will have a heavy focus on faith.

Some of the show’s stars have spoken about the direction of the Netflix prison drama – which is often praised for its portrayal of LGBT women.

Uzo Aduba, who won an Emmy for her role as Suzanne ‘Crazy Eyes’ Warren, told APN: “Season three has been an interesting one to shoot because [showrunner] Jenji Kohan was playing a lot with faith.

“Faith can cover things such as religion or faith in oneself or faith in another person and I don’t think Suzanne is any exception to that word. She has in the past two seasons shown us that she is an idol worshiper and somebody who puts her faith in other people, sometimes rightly and sometimes carelessly.”

Meanwhile, Samira Wiley – who plays Poussey Washington – told Diva magazine that the theme will play out in “different ways” across the cast.

She said: “The season is about faith in general and how that plays out with prisoners. I think that in any prison, when you’re locked up for any length of time, everything starts to come into question – especially faith – because you need faith to survive.

“So we’ll see all the different ways that that plays out with the different prisoners. That’s sort of the theme of the upcoming season.”

A new trailer released for the show days ago says: “With a crisis of faith and their beliefs and loyalties being tested, each character must decide what and who to believe in.”

Orange is the New Black returns to Netflix on June 12.

Oh shoot! That was yesterday! Time to go a-downloading! 😀
