The Golden Globe nominations are out, and by God, the categories are looking very packed and beautiful. There are so many people I’m rooting for, and I want to try my hand at making an award prediction. Of course, these predictions are subjective. So yeah, there’s that.

First of all, I just want to express how proud I am to see Jennifer Lopez’s name in that awards’ nominee list. After a two-decade-long acting career and a very blessed 2019, I feel like this is finally JLo’s moment. And even though us JLovers are eyeing an Oscar nod for this oft-underrated actress, what better way to start her season of goodwill than with a Golden Globe win?

Jennifer Lopez as Ramona in ‘Hustlers’

Yup, my Prediction Number 1 is that Jennifer Lopez will win the Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for her role in Hustlers. They say her main competition in that category is Laura Dern (Marriage Story) – and that may be so. I haven’t seen Marriage Story, but I know from Big Little Lies, that Laura Dern is one heck of an actress. I also saw that Margot Robbie got a nod in that category for Bombshell. I’m yet to see Bombshell, but I want to believe that the only star that will be shining out of that film is Charlize Theron. This. Is. JLo’s. Year! Everyone has been saying it. Everyone recognizes it. Surely, the Hollywood Foreign Press will too.

Charlize Theron as Megyn Kelly in ‘Bombshell’

And speaking of the South African blonde beauty, Charlize Theron (Bombshell) is going up against Scarlett Johansson (Marriage Story), Renee Zellweger (Judy) and Cynthia Erivo (Harriet) in the Best Actress in a Motion Picture category. With the exception of Scarlett Johansson’s character, the other actresses played actual real-life women, and much ado has been made out of how eerily well Charlize portrayed Megyn Kelly both in looks and mannerisms. Charlize is a superb actress, and the reason she is my Prediction Number 2 for a win is because she too has been having a good year. The Golden Globes is a popularity contest award show, and it is only fitting that the streak Theron has been enjoying by being honored with the American Cinematheque Award and the Glamour Woman of the Year award would culminate into a Golden Globe win for Best Actress in a Motion Picture.

Jennifer Aniston as Alex Levy in ‘The Morning Show’

In another Best Actress category is Jennifer Aniston (The Morning Show) facing off stiff competition from Olivia Colman (The Crown), Jodie Comer (Killing Eve), and Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon (Big Little Lies). The reason why I believe Jennifer will take home this trophy is because Olivia Colman and Jodie Comer are both fresh off Best Actress wins, Colman for the Oscars and Comer for the Emmys. Even Comer admitted in her acceptance speech that she didn’t think this was her time. That lucky streak won’t reward her a second time, especially not when most fans of Killing Eve think Sandra Oh deserved the award she won.

Also, Nicole Kidman has taken home a Golden Globe for this same Big Little Lies role, though not in the same category. I seriously do not see the Hollywood Foreign Press awarding her again, especially when the season 2 of Big Little Lies didn’t create quite the bang that its first season did – a pall that will also stop Reese Witherspoon from scooping that award.

So yes, my Prediction Number 3 is for Jennifer Aniston to win the Best Actress in a Television Series, because she has not only been generating a buzz with her performance as Alex Levy in The Morning Show, but she is also the undisputable America’s Sweetheart. (She after all took home the 2019 People’s Choice Icon award). I mean, what better way to round up the year of the woman who broke Instagram?

My other predictions are:

Number 4: Brad Pitt (Once Upon A Time In Hollywood) for Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture – because wouldn’t it be like Hollywood to try to rub it in Angelina Jolie’s face that both Brad AND Jennifer are winning?

Number 5: Joaquin Phoenix (Joker) for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – because there’s a reason the film is the highest grossing R-rated movie ever made.

Number 6: Anybody for Best Actor in a Television Series-Drama – LITERALLY ANYBODY – but Kit Harrington (Game of Thrones) because the blood of Daenerys Targaryen is still on his hands.

Number 7: Meryl Streep (Big Little Lies) for Best Supporting Actress in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture made for Television – because her character singlehandedly threatened the stability of the Monterey Five in Big Little Lies.

Number 8: Leonardo DiCaprio (Once Upon A Time In Hollywood) for Best Actor in Motion Picture-Musical or Comedy – because after his character, Rick Dalton, an actor himself, finished chewing one scene to bits, his costar came up to him and whispered to him: “That was the best acting I’ve ever seen in my whole life.”

So yeah, these are my predictions for the upcoming Golden Globes awards. What are yours? Let’s hear them.
