I’m always there, behind the scene

Amusing that you don’t see me

My finger is in every dish

Yes, I’m the party and also the meal

So your best friend just got a raise

Some luxury you are yet to taste

But instead of a merry heart

Jealousy simmers ‘neath your guard

You patch it but the bile breaks through

A stain upon your attitude

Enthroned you are on castle-air

A cynosure of spellbound earth

Your kingdom’s peace in twain is riven

When’er stars shoot across your heaven

How easily, Oh King majestic!

You’re threatened by anything fantastic!

Your panic is a fear of loss

Of this, what do you think the cause?

I am your insecurity

It is your insecurity speaking

You glow when you catch all attention

You’re climaxed by your sham perfection

When truth visits your lair of lies

You call your armies up to fight

Nothing must from your firm grasp take

Your shining image, though it’s fake

You devour meals of commendation

Correction gives you indigestion

When proven wrong, you never worry

Nothing will make you say you’re sorry

You’d rather lose your friends and kin

Than lose your throne, oh flawless King!

It’s still me, your insecurity.

Waiting for someone to come along

Someone to fill your life with song

Someone to make you feel special

For this someone, you can wait forever

And bless the fates, this someone comes!

But before dawn, this someone’s gone

Some in themselves do feel complete

And give themselves to mates as gifts

But you abide in emptiness

And seek a slave to fill your nest

I am your insecurity

This is your insecurity speaking

You labour hard to please the crowd

Your swagger loudest of the loud

A trophy in cabinet of world’s society

Victim to the whim of the thoughtless majority

Never do you use your head

People think for you instead

You’d rather agree and be accepted

Than tell the truth, lest you’re rejected

Acceptance above all you prize

Nothing else could be half as nice

It’s sad

And its insecurity

Are you still there?

This is your insecurity

It is your insecurity speaking
