According to the gossip blog, Hollywood Life, we might be seeing more of North West on the new season of Keeping Up With the Kardashians.
Aren’t you excited? Me neither.
But as the gossip site reports, the entire family, including North West, are currently filming season 11 in St. Barts, which is set to air this fall. In a follow-up report, the site said that Kanye insisted that North be well-compensated for her guest appearance.
As told by the HollywoodLife.com:
‘Kanye has no qualms about North being exploited on the family’s E! reality show. He just wants her to be more than compensated for her time. “He wants North to be famous,” a source close to the rapper explains to HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. “He absolutely wants her to have that life, and she will have it — if the price is right! He’s already informed Kim that if North’s going to be a regular on the show, then she needs to be paid more than all of Kim’s sisters and Kris [Jenner], 59! If not, it isn’t happening.”’
If the reports are true, you have to give it to the West clan for orchestrating a great deal, which ensures that North doesn’t have to work a single day in her life (not that it was likely a concern beforehand). And while she is too young to understand, he is teaching her a valuable lesson about properly valuing oneself. Best believe the network will be making tons of money off of her exposure, so she might as well get paid too.
And of course, North is no stranger to the public gaze. Not only has she been pictured front row at various fashion shows, but once she even stopped to pose for the paparazzi. Either that or she was wondering why those strange people were flashing lights in her face. And she has been on KUWTK before. According to Us, the heir to the Kardashian throne made a rather brief cameo while filming Kanye’s “Only One” music video, which was featured on an episode back in May of this year.
Still, I do wonder if all that public attention is good for a child her age. I am not a parent (gotta put that disclaimer out there), but if I were, I probably would be scared to death of not only the scrutiny she might receive but of what others might say about my own parenting. It is bad enough celebrity kids already get picked apart for their hair and other choices they have no control over.
Heck, it takes adults a long time to get adjusted to the limelight. Just look at her dad. He spent the last two years experiencing some pretty hefty celebrity growing pains. He got through it (I think), but it probably helps that Kanye is an adult. That should mean that he can better process and reason with all that is happening to him, as opposed to 2-year-old North.
I am no psychologist (another disclaimer), but it can’t be good psychologically for a child to be exposed to that much…well, exposure while she is still in her developmental years. I mean, what if all this attention at a young age turns her into a raging attention-seeking narcissist as an adult? And what happens if, by some small miracle, the Kardashians are no longer socially relevant? What could the lack of exposure do to a young person who has grown accustomed to receiving it? And what if she doesn’t like the cameras at all? It wasn’t that long ago that she was front row at Fashion Week, screaming during her daddy’s fashion show as the cameras snapped. There is nothing more damaging to a child’s confidence than forcing them to endure something she or he doesn’t truly feel comfortable doing.
