Buhari Says the US Is Aiding and Abetting Boko Haram

President Buhari says that the US is ‘aiding and abetting’ terror group Boko Haram by refusing to supply arms to Nigeria.

A US law called the Leahy Law prevents the US government from selling arms to countries which fail to tackle human rights abuses.

President Buhari made the accusation while addressing members of the US Institute of Peace on July 22nd:

“In our efforts at combating the activities of Boko Haram, the new Government has sought and obtained the support of not only our neighbours but other international friends and partners. Regrettably, the blanket application of the Leahy Law by the United States on the grounds of unproven allegations of human rights violations levelled against our forces has denied us access to appropriate strategic weapons to prosecute the war against the insurgents. Our forces have remained largely impotent because they do not possess the appropriate weapons and technology which they could have had, had the so-called human rights violations not been an obstacle. Unwittingly, and I dare say, unintentionally, the application of the Leahy Law amendment by the U.S. Government has aided and abetted the Boko Haram terrorist group in the prosecution of its extremist ideology and hate, the indiscriminate killings and maiming of civilians, in raping of women and girls, and in their other heinous crimes.”

Well, Mr. President, wouldn’t it just be easier to take care of those ‘unproven allegations of human rights violations’ so you can get us the help we need, instead of crying foul to the world media?

  1. We all know what you have to do, Baba Slow, to get Nigeria the help she wants. We all know. And yet, you’d rather just keep whining instead of being presidential. ‘Unproven’ allegations human rights violations? Puhleeze! They’re not unproven, they’re FACT!

  2. Really? Unproven allegations? Mr man, better go and clean up your house instead of looking for someone else to blame. Senile old bat!

  3. Then fix the human rights violations and if you can’t, but your arms from China or Russia, they don’t care about human rights violations. Seriously, this dude should stop with the whining, he should just stop with it

    • Yeah, he should just stop. It’s not flattering to his image of Mr Tough Integrity Pursuer at all. He should get to work and quit with the whining, biko.

  4. And by taking care of those human rights abuses I think you mean legalizing gay unions?
    Prove me wrong!

    • The human right abuses were leveled against the military, nothing was said about gay unions. Don’t go seeking for an argument were there is none. But hey, if they bring out another report saying the country has a terrible abuse record against homosexuals, do you think the report would be wrong?

    • Sending homosexuals to jail for simply being is a human rights violation. Perhaps when you find yourself being unjustly treated simply for existing one way or the other, you’d be a better human being over this issue.

  5. Seems za old man wanna concentrate in only fighting kworupshun

    • Fighting corruption, you say? By saying things like how he won’t treat well those who didn’t vote him? The spite his detractors said he has is beginning to show. And that’s just sad for Nigeria.
